Establishment of a new university: Central University to be built in Ladakh at a cost of Rs 750 crore, will promote higher education and research

Prime Minister Modi had announced the establishment of a new university in Ladakh in his Independence Day address.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal to set up a Central University in the Union Territory of Ladakh. It will cost Rs 750 crore. Jaideep Bhatnagar, Director General of PIB (Performance Information Office) shared this information on social media. It is being told that this university will promote higher education and research for the people of the region.

It will also serve as a model for other educational institutions. At the same time, this university will promote intellectual flow in a big way by removing regional imbalances at the level of higher education. The areas of Leh, Kargil, Ladakh will come under the university. Prime Minister Modi had announced the establishment of a new university in Ladakh in his Independence Day address.

Establishment of corporation for infrastructure development in Ladakh
The Union Cabinet has also approved the establishment of Ladakh Integrated Infrastructure Development Corporation in the Union Territory. According to the government, this will lead to inclusive and integrated development of Ladakh. Through this the goal of self-reliant India can be achieved.

An official statement said that this corporation will act as the main agency in relation to infrastructure construction in Ladakh. It will also help in industry, tourism, marketing of local products, handicrafts in the region. The authorized share capital of the corporation will be Rs.25 crore. The recurring expenditure every year would be around Rs 2.42 crore. This will be a new establishment.
