Essex County Cricket Club President John Faragher The team said on Friday it had resigned from its role over a historic allegation that they used racist language at a board meeting in 2017.

“This is a proud club with a zero tolerance policy towards Casteism and any form of discrimination and, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Essex Cricket, I will not hesitate to uphold those principles and remove any form of discrimination,” the Chief Executive Officer John Stephenson said.
“I was made aware of this single allegation on Thursday after joining the club four weeks ago. The board met last night, during which Faragher’s resignation was unanimously accepted by the board.”
Stephenson said the club was committed to working with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to eliminate discrimination from the sport.
“This is an important first step, but the club must act now,” he said, adding that they will review their internal reporting mechanisms to ensure they deal with matters “appropriately and promptly”.
Faragher’s decision comes a day after the chief executive of fellow county team Yorkshire mark arthur resigned in the latest fallout from allegations of institutional racism leveled by his former player azeem rafiq,
The club has been suspended from hosting internationals by the ECB after criticism for its failure to act on reports that Rafiq was the victim of “racial harassment and bullying”.
