England women’s squad for South Africa ODI announced;  Lauren Bell, Issie Wong Earn Maiden Call-up

England Women on Saturday announced a 14-man squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting July 11.

After impressing in the one-off Test against South Africa, young pacers Lauren Bell and Issie Wong have both earned their first call-ups in the ODI squad. During the competition in Taunton, Wong took three wickets, while Bell took two as the rain-hit game ended in a draw.

Ellis Davidson-Richards, who scored a scintillating century on his Test debut at Taunton, has also made a comeback in the ODI squad. He last played the format against India in 2018.

The squad will be led by Heather Knight and include other regulars like Tammy Beaumont, Kate Cross, Danny Wyatt, Nat Sciver, Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone.

Head coach Lisa Keightley said on the selections, “We have to keep going and try to improve as a team, and we were so pleased with the energy and skill that the four debutants came into the Test match.”


“I’m looking forward to seeing something similar in ODIs and the rest of the summer, with new players raising their hands to win games for England and the selection becoming harder and harder as more players make the case for joining, ” He added.

The three-match series will begin in Northampton on 11 July and end in Leicester on 18 July.
