According to former England off-spinner Graeme Swann, Virat Kohli need not worry much about the way he was dismissed in the first innings of the rescheduled 5th Test against England in Birmingham, as he remained calm during his brief stay in the middle. Looked.

Kohli was dismissed for 11 on the first day of the series after England won the toss and opted to bowl. Young Matthew Potts got the big wicket as Kohli found the inside edge of the stumps leaving Kohli undecided about the discharge outside the off-stump.

Kohli hit 2 fours for 11 off his 19 balls, but another early end to stay in the middle raised concerns about his form, or lack thereof. Kohli was expected to come back between runs after impressing in a 4-day warming-up match against Leicestershire in June, but his stay in the middle ended early in the first innings.

“I must say, apart from the inside edge (post-lunch) and the ball he got out today, Kohli looked really out there. If you see his feet, he was trying to get out of the off-stump. I am going to say that he was quite unlucky,” Swann told Sony Sports.

Kohli had to go through a stop-start phase on day one as rain delayed the opening day of the Birmingham Test by an hour. Kohli resumed batting after the lunch break but the former captain could not move on and scored a big total.

“I don’t think he should worry too much about it. He looked calm and he was hungry for runs. And he was devastated when he got out. I was watching it when a top-order batsman got out. Gets, if they just leave, it doesn’t feel right. He didn’t, he’s devastated like he wanted to today,” Swann said.

The former England off-spinner said that Kohli could go into the second innings of the series finale, especially after Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja dominated England’s bowling attack.

India were reduced to 98 for 5 after losing their top order cheaply, but Pant scored his 5th Test century – scoring 146 off 111 balls with solid support from Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 83 as India ended Posted in 338/7. First day’s game.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rishabh and Jadeja, they will probably want to tuck in the second innings,” Swann said.
