England pacer Tom Curran ruled out of remainder of Sydney Sixers campaign in BBL

England pacer Tom Curran has been ruled out of the remainder of the Sydney Sixers campaign in the 2021/22 season of the Big Bash League due to a back injury.

Curran’s exit is a major blow to the defending champions, who are also missing the services of spinners Ben Manenti and Steve O’Keefe due to neck strain and calf injury respectively.

“English international Tom Curran was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after suffering from a troublesome hotspot in his back. Curran will return to the UK immediately to begin his rehabilitation,” read the release from the Sixers on their official website.

Curran took six wickets in four matches in this edition of the BBL and was asked to play a key role in the Sixers’ pace attack along with England teammate Chris Jordan. He was the team’s leading wicket-taker in the 2019/20 Trophy-winning campaign, taking 22 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.05 apart from a significant cameo with the bat.

“We pride ourselves on being a club and a team that accepts challenges but it will be a challenge to lose players of the caliber of Tom (Curran) and Ben (Mananti) and keep SOK (Steve O’Keefe) on the sidelines. For any team and those guys are not just substitutes. Sixers captain Moises Henriques said, “On and off the field, those three guys play a big part for us and their presence around the team and on the field.” Kaushal will be remembered by everyone in the group.”

Curran, a member of England’s 2019 Cricket World Cup winning team, missed last season’s BBL due to travel restrictions and quarantine rules. In the current edition of BBL, Sixers are at the top of the table with 11 points after winning three out of their four matches.
