England captain Ben Stokes has sympathized with his football counterparts, saying the Three Lions are already legends and their best years are probably ahead of them. England lost the Euro final after losing to Italy in a penalty shootout. The end of the game was painful for England fans, who were furious after the game, hitting Italian fans inside the stadium complex.
“They will be absolutely devastated, no doubt about it. But what they have achieved is unbelievable. What they have done on the field has completely affected the nation,” Stokes said.
“Obviously everyone in the country would love to see England win, but just watching the game you feel a real connect with the team. The way Gareth Southgate has led, the way Gareth Southgate has spoken… I think he has been exceptional in everything he has done.
He said that he is proud of the players and knows what it is like to play an international game himself.
“We, as a national team, in a different sport, we are incredibly proud of what they managed to do.
“It is such a young team that is full of talent that the sky is the limit for them. There are many more years to go, many more tournaments to go to and prove yourself. But in the eyes of me and everyone in this changing room, he is already a complete legend.”
