Joe Root is one of the finest batters to have represented England.
England batter Joe Root was on Wednesday made Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Princess Anne at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle for his services to cricket.
Root, a former England captain, made his international debut in December 2012 against India. He has so far played 140 Tests, 171 ODIs and 32 T20Is, scoring a combined 19151 runs in them.

Root was part of England squad that won the 2019 ODI World Cup where he was also the top-scorer for his team.
His tally of 11,736 runs so far in Test cricket is the second-best in England history after former captain Alastair Cook who scored 12472 runs during his career.
The 33-year-old top-order batter says he wants to give back to the society.
“When you’ve played a little while and you’ve quite a bit of experience like I have, that’s a responsibility that you’re very aware of, and something that you want to try and give back,” Root said.
“You want to give back to the game as much as you can and try and encourage as many young boys and girls to take up the game because of the opportunities, not just on the field and stuff, but off the field that I’ve been able to experience through cricket,” he added.
Root’s message to budding cricketers is that they should understand that it’s a game of failure.
“It sounds quite a negative thing, but cricket is a game of failure. And I think being able to embrace failure to understand that it’s part and parcel of that sport, that gives you opportunities to learn and grow and get better,” Root said.
England won the 2022 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Jos Buttler and Root feels he’s doing a good job.
“Jos is one of my good friends. I think he’s a brilliant captain so I don’t think there’s any question,” he said.
