Ian Whatmore has stepped down as president of England and Wales Cricket Board after serving barely a year in the role. The top official of English cricket resigned on Thursday saying the decision was taken for his well-being as the job’s COVID-19 demands have had a personal impact on me”.

“It is with regret that I step down as chairman of the ECB, but with my own well being and the sport I love in mind,” Whatmore said.

“I was appointed to this position in the pre-pandemic era, but the role COVID means and its demands on time are dramatically different from all our original expectations, which has taken a personal toll on me.”

“Given this, the Board and I think the ECB will be better served by a new chair so that it can be carried forward after the pandemic.”
