LONDON: England’s star all-rounder and 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final match winner Ben Stokes has decided to take an indefinite break from international cricket. This news was given to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

According to the ECB statement, Stokes has decided to prioritize his “mental health”.

Stokes withdrew from England’s Test squad ahead of the LV=Insurance Test series against India next week in order to prioritize his mental well-being and rest his left forefinger, which entered competitive cricket earlier this month. Haven’t fully recovered since comeback”: ECB

“Our primary focus has always been on the mental health and well-being of all of our people. The demand on our athletes to prepare and play specific sports is relentless in a specific environment, but the ongoing pandemic has exacerbated this acutely.”
“It is extremely challenging to spend time away from family with the least amount of independence. The cumulative effect of almost continuous operation in these environments over the past 16 months has made a huge impact on everyone’s well-being.”
