Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf’s horrific run continued on Friday as he broke the record of conceding most runs in a single edition of an ODI World Cup during his team’s last league match against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The 30-year-old Rauf conceded 64 runs and picked three wickets on Friday to surpass the previous record of 526 runs by England leg-spinner Adil Rashid during the 2019 World Cup.
Known for his express pace, Haris was expected to rattle opposition batters but he failed to adapt to conditions in India and had an ordinary campaign. Overall, he took 16 wickets in nine innings, Rauf has conceded runs at an economy of 6.74.
Notably, Rauf is now the fourth bowler to concede more than 500 runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Riding on Ben Stokes’ attacking knock, England posted a total of 337/9 in 50 overs against Pakistan. Stokes smashed 84 from 76 balls to help spark England in their final game of the tournament, while Jonny Bairstow (59) and Joe Root (60) also hit half-centuries.
Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler decided to bat after winning the toss in their last group stage game.
Pakistan can move level with New Zealand on 10 points with a win over England but the difference in net run rate has already ruled them out from the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
On the other hand, England’s win will help them secure a spot at the next ICC Champions Trophy.
