A man was shot dead Friday outside the entrance of a Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego with a “knife and with hostile intent.”

The man was fatally shot by a military police officer at the entrance of Gate 5 when he got out of his vehicle and ignored verbal orders to stop, MCRD officials said.

The incident happened around 11:50 am. Emergency services were called and at 12:16 pm the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
