Emraan Hashmi has been in movies for twenty years and, despite his success, has never been a favourite at award shows. In a recent interview, he laughed it off and said he gets a “physical reaction” at these ceremonies in a recent interview on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.

Emraan Hashmi recalled having a headache at an awards ceremony and asked for a painkiller. He mentioned he wasn’t chasing awards and was content with the audience’s love instead. Emraan acknowledged awards as part of the industry but said he wasn’t focused on winning them. “I remember the last time I went for an award ceremony I actually, I had a headache and I asked for a Tylenol. I needed it. I actually took a Tylenol,” he said, adding, “I never wanted it so it’s not something that even figured in my consciousness. For people who love it, they want to decorate their shelf in their living room, if that’s your jam then yeah, go for it. It’s not my thing. I have never wanted it.”

During the interview, Emraan talked about award ceremonies and criticised the exchange system behind them. He said he doesn’t want to disrespect awards, but feels some people win them just for show. Emraan believes awards should truly reflect talent, not be about trading favours. He said, “I wouldn’t want to diss awards, but if someone wants to decorate their living room by dancing, all power to them. But I can’t pat myself on the back and say that I’ve delivered a good performance, because it’s a lie. You should win if you’ve done well. What’s the point of winning if it’s going to be a barter deal?”

Emraan Hashmi has starred in many successful films, including “Murder,” “Murder 2,” “Jannat,” “Raaz 3,” and “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.”
