The 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards announced their nominations on Tuesday, offering shows like “Ted Lasso”, “WandaVision” and “The Crown” in a year otherwise hit by the COVID pandemic. According to Fox News, the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced by father-daughter actor Ron Cephas Jones. The two were also joined by TV Academy CEO Frank Sherma.

They began airing last year with some playful jokes about their respective history-making Emmy nominations, with Ron jokingly telling his daughter to hold only one trophy compared to his two.

Last year’s ceremony was championed as a major victory for inclusion with a record number of 35 Black nominees out of 102 contenders for lead, supporting and guest performances in drama, comedy and limited series or TV movies.

British royal drama The Crown, in its fourth season, drew closer to contemporary events with its version of the courtship and Rocky marriage of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, starring Josh O’Connor and Emma Corinne.

The series with the most nominations this year is tied with Season 2 of “Star Wars” spinoff series “The Mandalorian” with 24 each.

“Ted Lasso,” a feel-good comedy about a moderate American football coach who is suddenly imported to England to handle a football team, garnered a nomination to star Jason Sudeikis.

Meanwhile, Disney Plus’ breakout hit “WandaVision” also garnered nominations for its lead actors Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.
