2021 US Open champion Emma Radukanu was injured in her opening match at the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham on Tuesday.

Britain’s Radukanu retired in the first set after going down 3-4 in a nearly half-an-hour match against Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.

Radukanu has suffered a stomach or rib injury, raising doubts about his participation in Wimbledon, Reuters reported.

Radukanu, 19, has been without a full-time coach since April. She rose to fame last year by winning the US Open title and became Britain’s first female Grand Slam champion since Virginia Wade in 1977.

Radukanu has struggled since finishing in the second round of the 2022 French Open.

She reached the last 16 of the 2021 Wimbledon, and needs a quick recovery to participate in this year’s Wimbledon, which will be held from 27 June to 10 July.
