SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recently sent an email SpaceX Employees urged him to work on the SpaceX Raptor engine line, saying the situation was a “crisis.” musk Told employees that the company faces a real risk of bankruptcy if it does not increase production to support the higher flight rate of the company’s Starship rocket next year. The Raptor engine is a methane-powered engine that will be used to propel SpaceX’s Starship.
SpaceX will use Starship to take people to outer space. In April this year, NASA The Elon Musk-led company was awarded a $2.9 billion (about Rs 21,745 crore) contract to develop Starship as a lunar lander to send astronauts to the lunar surface by 2025. SpaceX is developing and testing a Starship prototype, but has yet to launch the vehicle into space.
According to a recent presentation by Elon Musk cited in The Verge report, SpaceX aims to conduct the first orbital launch of Starship in January or February of 2022. However, Musk’s mail said SpaceX needs to launch Starship at least once every two weeks next year to keep the company afloat.
The report quoted Musk as saying that development of the Raptor engine is not on track. He said that after key senior management left the company, employees took a deeper look at the issues surrounding the Raptor and found them to be far more serious than previously reported. Two vice presidents recently left SpaceX – one of them worked on the Raptor engine.
Musk was quoted as saying in the email, “I was going to take this weekend as my first weekend getaway in a long time, but instead I’ll be on the Raptor line all night and through the weekend.” He urged employees to fall for “all hands on deck” status unless they have serious family issues or cannot physically attend to them.
