Twitter was bought by Musk last year for $44 billion and things have hardly been better for the platform since then.
Elon Musk took the reins of Twitter last October, and it’s been more than four months since Musk made sweeping changes at the company, including moving senior executives and entire teams from different countries. Musk assured that he would make Twitter a platform for free speech and to earn more in revenue.
He didn’t say exactly how the money-making part would work, but over the past few months, we’ve been seeing changes at Twitter and how Musk plans to operate the company, which he has bought for a massive $50 million after several legal battles. Elon Musk has decided that having a blue tick (Verified) badge on your Twitter account is a price worth paying. So, now you have to pay the price for subscribing to the blue subscription that blue tick gives. Since its inception, Twitter has given importance to giving verified badges to accounts, but now you need to pay $7 (roughly Rs. 560) or $11 (roughly Rs. 880) per month, and get the account verified. We have already seen several celebrities complaining about the lack of due diligence in handing out blue ticks, and making it easy for anyone to verify an account for a cloned account. Earlier you had to earn blue tick, now it is for anyone to sell.
No longer a reliable platform for information
With Twitter accounts being verified for what they are worth, it makes you question the veracity of information shared by so-called verified accounts of celebrities.
