As CEO of the organisation, Norman was part of Hockey India’s executive board and several committees, but did not have voting rights.

A decision of the Delhi High Court on Wednesday removed the post of CEO and ‘life member’ from Hockey India.

The Court also constituted a three-member committee headed by former Supreme Court Justice AR Dave to manage the affairs of the Federation.

former head Election Commissioner SY Qureshi and former Indian hockey team captain Zafar Iqbal are the other members of the committee.

Qureshi said that the Normans could continue but not with the current powers.

“As far as CEO Elena Norman is concerned, she is just an employee of Hockey India. He may not have the power to be on the executive board and managing committees of Hockey India, which is totally against Play Code,” Quraishi told PTI.

“Her employment is not at risk if she performs her duty as a professional.”

Qureshi also said that they will soon hire a professional to run HI like this one. was done for India Football Federation (AIFF).

“We will appoint an officer with knowledge of the game and integrity to run the day-to-day functioning of hockey,” he said.

“Our first and foremost priority is to correct the HI Constitution and keep it in line with the Sports Code. And then our goal is to conduct fresh and fair elections and hand over the governance of the federation to the newly elected, democratic body,” he said.

Asked whether outside interference could lead to a ban on the federation by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Qureshi said: “I don’t think so. We are not here to stay for a lifetime. We are here just to organize the house. The international body wants a democratically elected body and we are here to do just that.”

Qureshi, who is currently out of the country, said a virtual meeting would be held soon to discuss the future course of action of the CoA.

“I am currently out of India on a personal visit, but I have decided to curtail my travel and will return to India by June 7,” he said. Before that we will try to have virtual meetings on the HI matter.

Former India captain and member of the 1980 Olympic gold medal-winning team Zafar Iqbal said it was an opportunity for him to give back to the sport.

“It is a huge responsibility entrusted on my shoulders. I haven’t read the court orders yet, but whatever I am asked to do, I will try to do my best.”

“Whatever has happened, the game of hockey and the players should not suffer a bit.”

The High Court has given 20 weeks to the CoA to settle HI’s house and hold fresh elections.
