Elections of Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti in Rajasthan, around 13 percent voting in the early hours

According to the State Election Commission, around 13 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the early hours of Thursday for the election of panchayat samiti and zilla parishad members in six districts of Rajasthan. Voting began at 7.30 am at around 3,500 polling stations in Bharatpur, Dausa, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur and Sirohi districts.

The elections are being held in three phases from Thursday to elect a total of 200 members of six Zilla Parishads and 1,564 members of 78 Panchayat Samitis. The second and third phases of polling will be held on August 29 and September 1 and counting will be held on September 4 at the district headquarters.

One Zilla Parishad member and 26 Panchayat Samiti members have already been elected unopposed. A total of 26.55 lakh voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the first phase today.

A total of 77,94,300 voters are registered in the six districts, of which 41.23 lakh are males and 36.71 lakh are females. In Rajasthan there are total 33 Zilla Parishads at the district level and 352 Panchayat Samitis at the block level.

Of these, elections in 21 districts (21 Zilla Parishads and 222 Panchayat Samitis) were held in November-December last year. Elections to Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti could not be held in the remaining 12 districts due to the stay of the High Court on the creation of 19 new municipalities in these districts, in which the area of ​​Panchayati Raj institutions was also modified.

After resolving the issue of litigation over the delimitation process in February, the State Election Commission finalized the voter lists. The list was finalized in six districts of Bharatpur, Dausa, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur and Sirohi, where elections are being held in August-September. In the remaining districts of Alwar, Baran, Dholpur, Karauli, Kota and Ganganagar also the electoral rolls were finalized recently and elections to Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis will be held later.
