As the Punjab assembly elections approach, leaders have started making rounds of religious places. Congress’s Punjab President Navjot Sidhu and CM Charanjit Channi had gone to Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand a few days ago. In response to this, now Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) chief Sukhbir Badal has reached Salasar Dham in Rajasthan with an army of leaders. Earlier, AAP’s convener Arvind Kejriwal had also come to Punjab and bowed his head in temples.
These election tours of the leaders are believed to be a bet on the 38.49% Hindu vote bank in Punjab. Earlier everyone’s focus was on SC vote bank. All of a sudden the Congress failed the bet by replacing Captain Amarinder Singh with Charanjit Channi of the Scheduled Castes as the CM. After which all eyes are on Hindus.

Punjab elections started with 31.94% SC vote bank. BJP declared SC Chief Minister as Deputy CM by Akali Dal. The Congress went a step ahead and made the Chief Minister only of the Scheduled Castes. After which the leaders changed the stakes. Till now the Hindu vote bank in Punjab was available to the Congress either because of the BJP or Captain Amarinder Singh. This time Akali Dal has broken the alliance with BJP. At the same time, Amarinder is also not in the Congress. In such a situation, leaders are trying to woo Hindus by visiting religious places for this vote bank.

Difficult road for Congress
The road to Hindu vote bank is difficult for Congress in Punjab. For the first time in the history of Punjab, Sunil Jakhar was becoming a Hindu CM. However, this decision was postponed after internal protests. Second, Captain Amarinder Singh is not in the Congress. At the time of Captain, Hindus are sure that communal harmony will not be disturbed. The captain has been strict about it too. Now this vote bank can be divided between BJP and Captain’s new Punjab Lok Congress.
