Election of new executive board of Shimla Business Board on October 31

Political activities have intensified in Shimla with by-elections for three parliamentary constituencies and 30 assembly constituencies on October 30. At the same time, the election of Vyapar Mandal will also be held on October 31.

According to reports, 21 candidates contesting for the Vyapar Mandal unanimously formed the new executive. But after the pressure of angry traders, the executive was dissolved and now the elections will be held in a democratic and direct manner. The newly constituted election committee of Shimla Vyapar Mandal accused some traders of rigging the election and condemned the secretly constituted executive council.

The newly constituted election committee has scheduled the election of Shimla Vyapar Mandal on 31st October at Jain Hall of the city. The results will be declared on the same day after polling.

Election committee chairman Ramesh Choujad said that any member of Shimla Vyapar Mandal can contest the election. Enrollment forms can be obtained between October 7 and October 9. And the nomination process will start from October 11 and the last date for filing nominations is October 13.

Withdrawal of nominations will be allowed till October 16 while voting will be held on October 31. He said that for filling the nomination form, the candidate will have to pay Rs 2500 which will not be refunded if the candidate wants to withdraw his name. .

Chauzad further said that earlier the election dates were announced but the candidates who entered the fray, secretly formed the executive body which is against the interests of the traders.

He said that since the year 2012, Shimla Vyapar Mandal elections have not been held. According to the rules, it is necessary to conduct elections after 3 consecutive years.

Explaining the reason behind the delay in the elections, Chojad said that due to the municipal elections and the COVID-19 pandemic, Shimla Vyapar Mandal elections were postponed and they are being held now.
