State Chief Electoral Officer S. Karuna Raju on Friday said that the Election Commission has withdrawn the appointment of actor Sonu Sood as the state icon of Punjab.
He said the Election Commission withdrew his appointment on January 4, but did not give any details.
Sood, who hails from Punjab, was appointed as the state icon by the Election Commission in November last year.
The decision to honor him came after he earned praise for helping migrant workers reach hometowns amid the coronavirus pandemic.
