Egypt, Turkey appoint ambassadors, restore diplomatic relations

Egypt and Turkey have appointed ambassadors to each other’s capitals in a bid to restore normal diplomatic relations between them, a spokesman for Egypt’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

Turkey’s foreign ministry said the two countries upgraded ties in line with an agreement made by respective presidents Tayyip Erdogan and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Egypt has nominated Amr Elhamami to be its ambassador to Ankara, while Turkey has nominated Salih Mutlu Sen to be its ambassador to Cairo, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
