Efforts are being made to hold budget session in new assembly building: Meghalaya Speaker

Aiming to hold the next budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in the new building of Mawdiangdiang, Speaker Metba Lyngdoh said on Tuesday that about 80-85 percent of the civil works have been completed in the main building of the new assembly building.

After reviewing the project recently, Lyngdoh said, “I am happy to see that work progresses despite this pandemic, paucity of manpower, as most of them have left for their home towns – again Still the work is going on at a good pace. He said, ‘Our target is to complete it by the end of this year.

Highlighting the progress of the work, the Speaker said that as far as the civil work is concerned, the remaining work is only the dome, which is part of the main hall of the Vidhan Sabha building.

“We are waiting for the main structure, which is to come and all the thrust and the fabricated structure is ready in Kolkata,” he said.

The Chairman also informed that a team of engineers has already visited the factory where thrust is being given and it was found that everything was being done as per specification.

“We expect the dome portion of this consignment to reach Shillong by the end of this month and we aim to complete the installation of the dome by the end of August,” Lyngdoh said.

“We are making all efforts to see that the upcoming budget session is held in the new assembly building,” he said.

During the review meeting, representations were also made by the officers at various levels. It was told that the Police Department has discussed the security arrangements in detail after inspecting the site.

MePDCL had also identified the location for setting up of the sub-station in the main premises of the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan. He said that the work for this would start immediately without any delay. He said that a team of PHE officials is engaged in carrying out the works related to water supply.

Other issues discussed were regarding plantation by the Forest Department for the beautification of the premises.

Lyngdoh further informed that a team of PWD department would monitor the progress of the entire project on a daily basis. He said that the assembly has already floated the tender for boundary fencing, which is targeted to be completed this year.
