“Uber is increasing travel fares in Mumbai by 15 per cent,” said Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, in a statement.

He said the hike in fares was to help cushion drivers from the impact of hike in fuel prices.

“We listen to the feedback of the drivers and understand that the current hike in fuel prices is a matter of concern,” Bhushan said.

The taxi service service also said it would continue to monitor fuel price fluctuations and would take more steps as needed in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, fuel rates remained unchanged on April 1. The prices of commercial LPG cylinders have increased by over Rs 250 with effect from April 1. However, domestic LPG cylinders have been kept out of the latest round of hike.

In the last two months, the price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 346 per cylinder. On March 1, the rate of 19 kg commercial cylinder was reduced by Rs 105 and then on March 22, its price was cut by Rs 9.
