Presenting the Union Budget 2023, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that a National Digital Library will be set up to facilitate device-agnostic access and availability of quality books across geographies, languages, genres and levels for children and adolescents.

In addition, states will be encouraged to set up physical libraries at panchayat and ward levels for them and provide infrastructure to access national digital library resources. The minister said that the National Book Trust and the Children’s Book Trust will provide physical libraries with books in local languages ​​as well as in English.

Over the next three years, the Center will recruit 38,800 teachers and support staff for 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools to serve 3.5 lakh tribal students. The government also aims to set up 30 skills India International Center for skilling youth for international opportunities.

In her speech, Sitharaman also announced setting up of three Centers of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in top educational institutions.

A total of Rs 1,04,278 crore has been allocated for the education sector in last year’s Union Budget. This is an increase of Rs 11,054 crore from 2021. The education budget allocation was Rs. 93,223 crores in 2021. The minister announced several programs and initiatives to upskill employees with learning disabilities.
