NEW DELHI: At least seven organizations representing journalists came together on Thursday and strongly condemned the alleged surveillance on media persons. Pegasus spyware

“Acts of spying on citizens undermine democracy. Therefore, it is up to the government to put an end to the confusion of details and come clean on the use of Pegasus spyware,” a joint statement from the organizations said.
Referring to the acts of espionage as a “gross abuse of state powers” which must be stopped immediately, the organizations said that national security cannot be a shield to such unrestricted surveillance and said that media organizations are “democratic”. Will explore constitutional alternatives to protect and freedom of the press.”
