ED searches Nagpur hotel in alleged corruption case against Anil Deshmukh

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday conducted searches at a Nagpur hotel as part of its probe in an alleged corruption case against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. The ED is probing Deshmukh in a case of alleged extortion from orchestra bars in the state. The ED had issued summons to the 71-year-old NCP leader and his son Hrishikesh Deshmukh to appear.

The attached properties include a residential flat in Mumbai’s Worli worth Rs 1.54 crore and 25 plots worth Rs 2.67 crore in Dhootam village of Uran in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

The ED has alleged that Rs 4.7 crore, allegedly collected from the orchestra bar by sacked constable Sachin Vaze on the instructions of Deshmukh, was transferred by his son to the Nagpur-based educational trust of the former minister, who had transferred it to two hawala operators. Deshmukh is the chairman of the trust and his two sons Salil and Hrishikesh are its trustees. Earlier, the ED had raided Deshmukh’s residences in Nagpur and Mumbai. Raids were conducted at five places.
