TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee arrived at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi at 10.57 am for questioning in the coal theft case. As he entered, he said, “They are doing their job and I am here to assist in their investigation. The people of the country will decide.”
Banerjee came out after 9 hours of questioning at 7.57 pm and said it was “completely political”.
Banerjee said that he would follow the law of the land and cooperate with the agencies, similarly when he entered the ED office his statement was very crisp and short but when he came out it was political and there was a mood of aggression.
He showed that even when he was interrogated for 9 hours, he was not in a defensive but aggressive mood. “If BJP thinks that doing all this will scare TMC and sit like other parties, especially Congress, then they are wrong. We will go to every state and give a fight to BJP. The dictatorship of BJP will be defeated. Their resources will deplete and whatever happens, we will beat them in 2024.
He added, “We will lay down our lives but will not bow down and we will not sell our backbone.”
It was almost like an election speech in which he emphasized all the points.
Interestingly, he targeted the Congress even on a day when the party was not ready to field candidates in Bhawanipur. He said that 25 BJP MLAs are in touch with him and TMC is not inclined to take him. It was the BJP, it was the Congress and it was also a projection of the compulsion of the investigating agencies which they tried to show. As he said, “I don’t blame the officials they have to work too but I can say that the agency the BJP is doing is not happy either.”
Suvendu Adhikari said in Bankura, “I am standing in the Bankura coal belt and everyone knows what happened.”
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya said, “If they feel that political vendetta is going on then they should approach the court. Let them campaign against Modi, people will reply.”
