‘EC has taken responsibility to make Mamata win’: BJP questions poll body’s role in Bengal bypolls

The BJP in West Bengal on Friday accused the Election Commission of changing its attitude towards the party within four months and claimed that the poll body has taken the “responsibility of getting Mamata to victory”.

It was the responsibility of the commission to give victory to Mamta and stop the BJP. I was attacked, MP Arjun Singh and BJP President… nothing happened. Hence the commission was not taking our complaint,” said BJP national vice president Dilip Ghosh on Friday morning.

Just before the election, Arjun Singh told News18 that he was not happy with the role in question. Three months back TMC used to complain against the Election Commission and this time the picture was different. The number of complaints made by the TMC on Thursday was less than that of the BJP.

The last vote percentage of Bhabnipur is 57.09 percent. The vote percentage of the April assembly election was 61.36.

The following are the polling percentage figures for Bhawanipur since 2011:

In 2011, 44 per cent votes were cast and TMC’s margin was 53,000 (approximately).

In 2016 67 per cent votes were cast and TMC’s margin was 25,000 (approximately).

In 2021, 61.36 per cent votes were cast and TMC’s margin was 28,000 (approx).

Counting of votes will take place on October 3. TMC is confident that it will garner over 50,000 votes and BJP is also claiming that it will win in Bhabnipur.
