Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 hits Nicobar islands region

An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale hit the Nicobar Islands region at around 5.07 am, the National Center for Seismology said on Monday.

Earthquake tremors were felt in two countries – India and Indonesia. The earthquake shook Perka, 208 km off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Three tremors of earthquake one after the other in Uttarkashi

About 24 hours after the earthquake in Uttarkashi, there was an earthquake in Nokbar Island. Two consecutive tremors were felt after an earthquake of magnitude 5 in Uttarkashi in the early hours of Sunday.

District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said on Sunday that the epicenter of the first earthquake came in Siror forest of Bhatwari area of ​​the district at 12.45 am.

He said two other aftershocks followed soon after, but were too mild to be recorded locally.

Patwal said the quake woke up many residents as kitchen utensils fell to the ground and window panes and doors rattled, forcing them to run out of their homes in panic.

They said they spent almost the entire night outside their homes in fear.

However, there was no report of loss of life or property from anywhere in the district, Patwal said.
