Dwayne Bravo calls Yuvraj Singh in 2006 series ‘life-changing’

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo believes his over given to Yuvraj Singh in the second ODI of the 2006 series against India was a life-changing moment. Chasing the target of 198 runs, India needed 11 runs in the last over to win by one wicket. On the first ball, Bravo was faced by Munaf Patel who did well to deliver the strike to Yuvraj Singh. The left-hander was batting on 85 and was India’s only hope of victory. He hit Bravo for two consecutive fours and took the Indian team closer to victory. In the remaining three balls, India needed only 2 runs to win. And then Bravo pulled off a magical delivery.

Surprising Yuvraj with a slow pace, Bravo clean bowled him to give West Indies a 1 run victory. “It took the world to see and notice that I have the best change balls in the business and it has made my T20 career,” Bravo told The Indian Express.

“Too many, man, to pick one ball as my favourite. That ball from Yuvraj changed my life,” said Bravo, choosing his favorite delivery till date.

Dwayne Bravo said that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also reached out to him through late West Indies commentator Tony Cozier, after his exploits in the match.

Bravo said that when skipper Brian Lara bowled him for the final over, he had not thought about what kind of delivery he would bowl. Bravo, who is now the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, says that he still doesn’t think before going into the delivery.

While Bravo has announced his retirement from international cricket, he continues to play in various T20 leagues across the world. He is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the current IPL season.

Bravo replaced Lasith Malinga as the highest wicket-taker in IPL history in the match against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. Bravo has taken 171 wickets in 153 matches of the Indian Premier League.
