Dussehra: A Huge Crowd For Mysore Hotel Industry In Dussehra | Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysore: Although the government has banned the gatherings, Dussehra festival in Mysore The district has come as a major relief to the hotel industry, which has been incurring losses since the pandemic hit 18 months ago.
Although visitors from the neighboring states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are few in number, a large number of people from Bengaluru are flocking to Mysore to witness the celebrations. One reason for overcrowding is fatigue due to restrictions and lockdown, while the long weekend has also helped. As a result, hotels have registered good bookings till October 15.
Mysore has about 10,000 hotel rooms and, as of Sunday, around 7,000 rooms were occupied, thanks to the huge influx of visitors from across the state, especially Bengaluru.
“As of October 15, almost 70% of the rooms are booked,” said Narayan Gowda, President, Mysore Hotel Owners Association. “It has come as a big relief to us. This time, most of our customers are from Bengaluru and many of them are staying overnight. This is helping the business to recover. The restaurant is also doing good business.
Statistics show that the number of tourists from Kerala and Tamil Nadu has declined by about 95%. “Strict rules are still in place for visitors from Kerala, people of the state are staying away. So, we are not getting a good number of tourists,” said Gowda.
Stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry say a major attraction is the city lights and they want the authorities to keep the lights on beyond Dussehra.
Confirming that most of the tourists are from Bengaluru, President of the Federation of Mysore Organizations Prashant BS said: “This Dussehra rush has shown that people are no longer afraid of Covid-19. We need to use this Dussehra to promote tourism in the district. The lights are a major attraction. The district administration should continue this even after Dussehra as people continue to reach Mysore even after the festival.
