Durga Ashtami 2021: History, Significance, Worship Method and Shubh Muhurta

Monthly Durga Ashtami, which is dedicated to Maa Durga, is celebrated on the Ashtami of Shukla Paksha with the worship of the goddess throughout the day, with worship and fasting in the evening. It is claimed that the fast observed on this day can wipe out all the troubles in the lives of the devotees and bring peace, wealth and happiness to their families. Ashadh Shukla Ashtami Tithi is starting from Saturday, 17th July. In this month, Shukla Ashtami Tithi will end on July 17 at 2:41 pm.

Once upon a time, there was a terrifying demon who tormented the planets beyond comparison. In this matter, all the gods fled to Kailash in fear to seek the help of Lord Shiva. On the Ashtami of Shukla Paksha, Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma united their forces and gave birth to Maa Durga.

They handed him the most formidable weapons, and he fought a fierce battle with the demon, defeating him in no time. The three worlds celebrated with gaiety and thanked and worshiped Maa Durga in various joyful ways.

Durga Ashtami 2021: Puja Vidhi

Wake up early in the morning, take a holy bath and decorate the altar with the image of Maa Durga. Light a big lamp in front of the Akhand Jyoti altar. Pink flowers, banana and coconut are the most popular tributes to Mahagauri.

Giving incense, ringing of bell and blowing of conch are other ways to please Mahagauri. On this day, barley is sown in earthen pots and allowed to flourish as a symbol of wealth.

The house is not left empty all day. Worshipers do not eat anything from sunrise to dusk. If this is not possible, fruits and milk are consumed. Puja is performed once again in the evening and the fast is completed after sunset.
