Superstar Dulquer Salmaan’s latest film Kurup has hit the screens today and the film is receiving an overwhelming response from the critics as well as the audience. Based on the life of India’s wanted criminal Sukumar Kurup, who was falsely accused of murder and his death, the film is co-produced by the actor’s production house, Wayfarer Films. Before the release of the film, the trailer of Kurup was shown at Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Salman’s fans could not stop their excitement about the release of this film.
But let’s know a little more about Dulquer Salmaan.
He is the second child of actor Mammootty and his wife Sulfath. After completing his schooling from Kochi and later from Chennai, the actor moved to the United States and pursued a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Purdue University. After graduation, he worked in the US and later did his IT related business in Dubai. He later decided to pursue a career in acting and attended a three-month course at Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai.
Salman made his debut in 2012 with the crime drama Second Show, which received mixed reviews from critics, but was a commercial success. But it was Ustad Hotel which released the same year that won him the Filmfare Award trophy for Best Male Debut – South and also garnered some critical acclaim.

Married to Amal Sufia
Just a year before making his acting debut, the actor married Amal Sufia at the age of 25. It was actually his father Mammootty who advised Salman to get married before entering the film industry. His father is believed to have given an example from his own life to underscore the importance of marrying early. Mammootty apparently told his son that marriage would bring stability and focus in one’s life.
Sufia, who is an architect, went to the same school and was Salman’s junior. When she finished college, she was in her final year at architectural school. Many people around Salman insisted him to talk to his Sufia and get to know each other. They started talking among themselves and later the parents of the couple met. Sufia and Salman were blessed with a baby girl in 2017. They named her Maryam Amirah Salman.
In 2013, she starred in a comedy drama ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi, in which she made her singing debut with “Johnny Mone Johnny”. Both the song and the film became popular.
Bangalore days
One of the biggest hits of his career came in Bangalore Days released in 2014. Featuring Nivin Pauly, Nazaria Nazim, Fahadh Faasil and Parvathi Thiruvothu, the film went on to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
The following year, the actor was seen in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil romantic drama O Kadhal Kanmani opposite Nithya Menon. The film was a huge success and established Salman as a big star. He also becomes the heartbeat of the nation. In the same year, the actor played the titular character in Martin Prakatt’s Charlie (2015). The film garnered a positive response from critics and garnered eight Kerala State Film Awards, earning Salman his first Best Actor award.
Salman was ranked 4th by GQ in its list of 50 Most Influential Young Indians of 2016. He was also included in the list of Best Dressed Men India 2016 by GQ.
His next big hit came in 2017 with the action-adventure film Comrade in America. The film was a huge commercial success.
In 2018, the actor made his Telugu debut with Mahanati, a biopic on actress Savitri. Salman’s portrayal of Gemini Ganesan was highly appreciated and the film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success at the box office.
Bollywood Debut
She made her Hindi debut with Caravan featuring Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar. The film received a mixed response and was not a commercial success. After Caravan, the actor’s next Bollywood film The Zoya Factor released in September 2019. Abhishek Sharma’s film of Anuja Chauhan’s novel did not do well at the box office, but Salman’s performance was appreciated.

The actor turned producer in 2020 with his production company Wayfarer Films. Her first film under her production house was Varane Avashyamund where she co-starred with Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Salman is a well known automobile enthusiast. He is known to have a rich collection of luxury cars in his garage. As per reports, his collection includes Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Ferrari 458 Spyder, BMW X6 M and Porsche Panamera Turbo.
While the actor and his father Mammootty are yet to come together in a film, they run a business together. He is the director of Riya Healthcare, a chain of mother and child care centers under the name Motherhood. He is also interested in dental business chain based in Chennai and web portal that facilitates car trading.
