Drugs case: Court refuses to grant bail to Karishma Prakash before arrest, directs to go to NCB’s office

MumbaiA special NDPS court here on Thursday rejected the pre-arrest bail plea of Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s former manager Karishma Prakash in a drug case related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Fearing arrest in a drug-related probe into Rajput’s death, Prakash had filed an anticipatory bail plea before a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) court in October last year.

After hearing extensive arguments made by both the defense and the prosecution, Special Judge VV Vidvans rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

However, the court stayed the order allowing Prakash to move the Bombay High Court till August 25.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is probing the alleged nexus between drug smugglers and Bollywood celebrities, which came to light after Rajput’s death in June last year. The CBI is probing Rajput’s death case separately.

Prakash’s name cropped up during interrogation of one of the arrested drug smugglers.

The central agency has so far arrested more than 20 people as part of its probe in the drug case.

Most of the accused, including the late actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, are currently out on bail.
