The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted drug smuggling from Africa via Sahnewal to Haryana and seized 55 kg of heroin worth Rs 434 crore. Along with this, drug money of Rs 50 lakh has also been recovered. It has been recovered from Delhi, Haryana and Sahnewal of Punjab. The team has produced the three arrested accused in Delhi court and taken them on remand.

According to DRI officials, consignments of heroin were being supplied from Africa to Sahnewal in Punjab’s Ludhiana district. The DRI team carried out Operation Black and White to find out the drug nexus. There was strong information that the cargo originating from Entebbe in Uganda reached the Air Cargo Complex of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi on May 10 via Dubai.
Heroin worth crores was brought hidden in the metal tubes of these trolley bags.
55 kg heroin found in “trolley bag”
Cargo arriving at Delhi airport was declared to have “trolley bags”. During checking, the DRI team found that an imported cargo consignment contained a total of 55 kg heroin, which was confiscated by the team. The imported goods contained 330 trolley bags. Tubes were hidden inside the metal of 126 trolley bags. It was not easy to find out.
818 grams of heroin found in Shoe Land
DRI raided the warehouse of Shoe Land shop located in Ramgarh area of Sahnewal. Ramanjit Singh and Navjot Singh present in the shop do the business of selling shoes, garments, accessories and trolley bags. When the shop and godown of both the persons were searched, the officials recovered 818 grams of heroin and cash worth more than 15.34 lakhs. The officials have arrested the accused. The accused have been handed over to Delhi DRI.
6 kg heroin recovered from Haryana
At the same time, the remaining 6 kg of heroin and cash worth several lakhs were seized from Haryana by the DRI team. It is being told that this consignment was imported in the name of an importer from Delhi. The real beneficiaries of the consignment were two businesses of Sahnewal, Ramanjit Singh and Navjot Singh. The team produced three people arrested in this case in a Delhi court on Wednesday. The court has sent them on remand for 14 days. The team is currently investigating to get many more clues and big revelations in this case.
