The land was again acquired by the state in 2012 and a compensation of Rs 1.83 crore was given to the family in 2014 during the Akali-BJP coalition government. The apex court had issued notice to the family in the first week of May last.
Raising the issue of ‘double compensation’, Jakhar highlighted the issue in his letters, urging the party high command as well as Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to remove Sodhi from the cabinet. It is learned that Jakhar also urged the Captain to initiate criminal proceedings against Sodhi as the civil suit was not sufficient to recover the compensation taken twice. Sources close to the developments have revealed that Jakhar had written these letters two months back and it was learned that the former PPCC chief had questioned the CM on Sodhi during the cabinet meeting of April 26, in which he and minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa handed them over. Even when Jakhar demanded the sacking of Sodhi from the Amarinder cabinet, he urged Venugopal to remove him from the party as well.

However, he wrote that it was mandatory to sack him from the state cabinet to ensure that the Congress party was not held responsible for this fraud. He said it was necessary to register a criminal case against Sodhi to keep the party’s position clear.
