Door to door collection of e-waste from 57 more wards of Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will expand ‘people’s doorstep collection of e-waste’ service in 57 more wards of the city from Saturday. Till now, the civic body used to collect e-waste from 10 wards every Saturday. Recently about three quintals of e-waste was collected from these wards under a special drive.
On 24 July, the BMC launched a campaign to spread awareness among people about giving e-waste to Safai Karamcharis (Swachhata Karmacharis) and not throwing it outside their homes. “Damaged electronic equipment, accessories and other such items can not only pose a hazard to the environment and health, but can also be misused if they fall into the wrong hands. This is the reason why people should ensure that they are properly disposed of,” said a BMC official.
Residents can give their e-waste such as cords, computer keyboards, broken parts of mobile phones to the sanitation workers. The garbage collection van has a separate bag to collect the e-waste during door-to-door collection. These dedicated vehicles transport the waste to three different material recovery facilities.
BMC additional commissioner Laxmikant Sethi said, “I appeal to the residents to cooperate with the sanitation workers. The e-waste collection vehicles will move around the wards in the morning hours and not only on Saturdays, as before.”
