“We don’t want the prime minister to apologize. We don’t want to tarnish his reputation abroad. If a decision will be taken, it will not happen without the consent of the farmers. We do farming in the fields honestly but Delhi didn’t pay Please pay attention to our demands,” the BKU leader tweeted (roughly translated from Hindi).

Responding to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s statement on repealed agricultural laws, Tikait had said the remarks were intended to deceive the farmers and would also humiliate the Prime Minister.

At an event in Nagpur, Tomar had said: “We brought the agriculture law. Some people did not like it. But the government is not disappointed. We took a step back and we will move forward again because farmers are the backbone of India. They are the backbone. Will be strong, the country will become strong.”

However, later the minister clarified on the issue and said that during a program his statement was misrepresented.

Tikait then hit back saying that the Center has threatened to resume the agitation if the agriculture laws are reintroduced. Three agriculture laws were repealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19 November. These bills were passed during the winter session of Parliament which began on 23 November.

The farmers, who have been protesting on the Delhi border against the three laws for almost a year, have suspended their agitation and returned to their homes.
