The Indian cricket team have made their road to the final of the World Test Championship (2023-25) cycle much harder since their whitewash against New Zealand on home soil. Considering that they have to win four Tests and draw one in the remaining five games which would be against the mighty Aussies Down Under, Gavaskar feels that the current side might not be able to get it done, thus posing a risk of qualifying for the final.

The former Indian cricketer does not feel that the current side can go 4-0 up against Australia. He gave an honest opinion where he thinks that it might be possible for the Indian team to be able to win at most three Tests, but winning four might be too big of a task.

No, I actually don’t. India cannot beat Australia 4-0 in the Test series, I’d be over the moon if they do that,” Gavaskar responded to a question on India’s chances to win four Tests against Australia, as quoted by India Today.

But Gavaskar does not want the chatter to be about the WTC final but rather ensure that the focus is on the upcoming series against the Aussies, regardless of what the result might be.

“Don’t talk about the world test championship final. Now just focus on trying to win the series in Australia,” he commented.

The legendary Indian opening batter wants the Rohit Sharma-led side to focus on winning the series and not be distracted by the WTC qualification scenarios. He feels that

“Never mind whether you win 1-0,2-0,3-0, 3-1,2-1. But go and win. Because that is how all of us Indian cricket fans are going to be back to feeling good again,” he added.

The Indian team will look to redeem themselves in the Australian Test series as they hope to defend the Border-Gavaskar title yet again. However, Australia will be keen on spoiling the party yet again as they hope to inflict serious damage against India.

The Test series against Australia will begin on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
