‘Don’t Know When They’ll Reveal Names’: Maneka Gandhi On Congress Suspense For Amethi, Raebareli Candidates – News18

BJP MP and party’s candidate from Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said “there will be less challenge this time” in an apparent jibe to the Congress party’s failure to declare Lok Sabha candidates from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi and Raebareli constituencies yet.

“It is always a competition but I think we will win. This time there is less challenge,” she said, adding, “Only 2 days are left for nomination, I don’t know when they will reveal (the names).”

Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairan Ramesh on Wednesday said that the decision on the party’s candidates from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi and Raebareli constituencies for the Lok Sabha election 2024 will be announced in the next 24 hours.

“Congress Central Election Committee has empowered the party President to declare candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareilly seats. In the next 24-30 hours, the Congress President will finalise the candidates, and his decision will be announced formally. Till that is done, all information, tickers, and office orders are all fake,” Jairam Ramesh said, according to an NDTV report.

“Nobody is scared, no one is running away,” he added. With two days left for nominations, the Congress party is yet to announce the names of candidates for the said Lok Sabha seats, which were traditionally a stronghold of the grand old party.

On being asked about Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s candidature from Amethi and Raebareli, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said, “…Gandhi family is very popular and lakhs of people are coming to their public meetings and now this decision (of announcing the candidature) has been left to the Congress Central Election Committee…”
