At least four people have died by suicide following Munde’s loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Beed seat in Maharashtra

A video showing BJP leader Pankaja Munde in tears at a condolence gathering for a party worker who allegedly died by suicide after her recent Lok Sabha election defeat has gone viral on social media.

At least four people have died by suicide following Munde’s loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Beed seat in Maharashtra.

During the gathering held on Sunday at the residence of Popatrao Vaibhase, one of the deceased party worker, the BJP leader urged her supporters not to lose hope in life as she comforted the families.

“We are certainly not weak enough to be depressed by a defeat, but this pain is unbearable for me. Don’t give up your life,” she pleaded in a heartfelt post shared on her X handle, which was written in Marathi.

Munde also shared photographs capturing moments of solace with Vaibhase’s grieving family on platform X.

“A condolence meeting was held with the family members of my activist Mr. Popat Vaibhase today at Chinchewadi in Ashti taluka. Poptrao is an active worker who devotes himself to every task…actually a fighter, but to leave his family by taking such an extreme decision is going to weaken me,” Munde wrote.

“I will continue to try to share the burden of their grief. I am also taking all the responsibility of their innocent children and families. But this responsibility is painful for me. The volatile expressions in their children’s eyes are disturbing to me,” she added.

The other three party workers who died by suicide were Sachin Munde, Pandurang Sonawane, and Ganesh Bade.

Munde, a former Maharashtra minister, was defeated in the Beed Lok Sabha seat by Bajrang Sonawane of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar, who secured victory with a margin of over 6,000 votes.

Her defeat is significant as the seat has been synonymous with her family since 2009, when her father Gopinathrao Munde defeated the NCP’s Ramesh Adaska. In the 2019 elections, her sister Pritam Munde won the seat, defeating Sonawane by a substantial margin.
