Don’t create an atmosphere of anarchy by misleading farmers: Narendra Singh Tomar to Rahul Gandhi

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar attacked on Monday Rahul Gandhi For his demand to repeal three new agriculture laws and said that the Congress leader should not try to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country by misleading the farmers. Earlier in the day, Gandhi along with other party MPs drove a tractor in Parliament and demanded that three controversial agriculture laws be repealed.

On Gandhi’s tractor ride, Tomar said that the Congress leader neither has any experience of rural India nor does he care for the poor and farmers. Referring to the Congress party’s election manifesto to bring in similar agrarian reforms, Tomar asked former Congress president Gandhi whether the Congress was lying in the manifesto or “right now”.

“I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that he should not try to mislead the farmers and create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. Due to such habits and shallow understanding, he is not even a consensus leader in the Congress,” the minister said. On the farmers’ protest going on at the borders of Delhi since late November 2020, Tomar said the unions have no proposal. And that is why they are not coming forward for discussion with the government.

The minister reiterated that the government is always ready to hold talks with the protesting farmers. Several farmers’ unions are opposing the three agriculture laws passed by Parliament last September, saying these laws are against the interests of the farming community. They are pushing for repeal of the law. On the other hand, the government has refused to repeal the laws but is ready to address their objections to the provisions of the laws.

In January this year, the Supreme Court suspended the implementation of three agricultural laws. Tomar also highlighted that the Modi government has done a lot of work for the benefit of farmers in the last seven years.

Congress leaders said the purpose of Gandhi’s tractor ride to Parliament was to highlight the issues of farmers and extend their support to them. “The purpose of these laws is to help only two-three industrialists. The whole country knows for whom these laws have been brought. These laws are not for the benefit of farmers and hence have to be withdrawn.
