Don’t blame India, England also skipped the tour of South Africa due to COVID. Twitter Reactions

The fifth and final Test between India and England to be played at Old Trafford was called off hours before the start of the game on Friday. The development comes after intense discussions between the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) and the ECB after India’s assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement, “Following ongoing talks with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV=Insurance Test between the men of England and India begins today at Emirates Old Trafford. will be cancelled.” Statement.

“Due to apprehensions of a further rise in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are unable to field a team and will instead sadly lose the match.

“We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause great disappointment and inconvenience to many. Further information will be shared at an appropriate time,” the statement further read.

Twitter was chattering around the development. There were a lot of suggestions that India had ‘let England down’, and questions were asked about Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli attending the book launch before the coach tested positive. With the IPL starting from September 19, some even said that India is prioritizing it for Test cricket.

However, there were some like Kevin Pietersen, Michael Vaughan and Wasim Jaffer who pointed out that England too had skipped the tour of South Africa due to the COVID-19 scare. Here are some responses.

It remains to be seen whether the Test will be played later. Thus, there is no clear answer as to whether India has won the series or not.
