Dominant Sarita won the first gold of the 2022 season, Manisha got the first gold of senior level

Almaty: World And Asian Championships bronze medalist Sarita Mor claimed her maiden gold medal of the 2022 season and just two points for the 59kg title at the Bolat Turlikhanov Cup of the UWW Ranking Series here on Saturday.

Sarita took the mat for three bouts and won all, including the final, against Azerbaijan’s Zhala Aliyeva by technical superiority.

The class gap between Sarita, who won her first world medal last year, and her opponents was huge as no one could compete against her for a full six minutes.

The Indian wrestler was quick to measure up to his rivals and once he caught them, he ended the bouts with a flurry of moves.

“I agree that the level of competition was a notch down as compared to the Asian Championships. But I saw entries in both 57 and 59kg category and since there was better competition in 59kg, I took part in this category,” Sarita told PTI. told.

“The target is to qualify for the Paris Olympics and that will be my focus. These victories give confidence,” she said.

Manisha also won the gold medal, winning the 65kg title with an 8-0 win over Azerbaijan’s Alice Manolova in the final.

This is the first international gold on the senior circuit for Manisha, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in April this year.

Bipasha, however, had to be content with a silver medal in the 72kg after she lost 5-7 to home favorite Zamila Bakbergenova. This is Bipasha’s first medal at the senior level as she has been participating in junior events so far.

Sushma Shokin also performed brilliantly to clinch the 55kg bronze medal by defeating Kazakhstan’s Ainur Ashimova in the play-offs in less than two minutes.

In the men’s freestyle, Mohit won the 125kg bronze with an 8-2 win over Sardorbek Kholmatov, taking India to 10 medals in the tournament.

Mansi (57kg), Sakshi Malik (62kg), Divya Kakran (68kg) won the gold medals on Friday, while Pooja Sihag (76kg) won the bronze.

Greco-Roman wrestler Neeraj won the bronze medal in the 63kg category on Thursday.
