Domestic air passenger traffic grows nearly five times in May – Times of India

Mumbai: domestic air passenger traffic DGCA data shows Indian carriers carried 12 million passengers on local routes in May, leading to a strong recovery in demand. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, domestic air passenger traffic stood at only 21 lakh in May 2021.
Of the total 12 million passengers flown by domestic carriers in May 2022, the market leader Indigo Transported around 70 lakh with 57.9 per cent market share, followed by Mumbai-based carrier GoFirst with 12.76 lakh passengers, accounting for 10.8 per cent of the total domestic traffic.
Two full-service carriers – Air India And VistaraThose who are part of the Tata group along with AirAsia India without frills – carried 8.23 ​​lakh and 9.83 lakh passengers respectively in the last month.
DGCA said AirAsia India flew 6.86 lakh passengers on domestic routes in May 2022.
As per monthly data, during the reporting month, budget carrier SpiceJet delivered the highest load factor at 89.1 per cent, followed by GoFirst at 86.5 per cent.
In aviation parlance, passenger load factor or seat factor is a measure of how much of an airline’s passenger carrying capacity is used or the average percentage of seats filled on an aircraft.
In terms of on-time performance (OTP), AirAsia India had the maximum number of on-time flights with an OTP of 90.8 per cent across four major airports.
DGCA said Vistara’s second best OTP was 87.5 per cent in the month under review.
Presently DGCA publishes monthly on-time performance of domestic airlines from four metro airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
