Resident doctors of government hospitals on Monday called for a complete shutdown of all health care institutions from Monday after they were detained by the Delhi Police. The doctor’s body said in an official statement that police had “ruthlessly beaten, dragged and detained”.

The doctor’s body said that the doctors were marching towards the Supreme Court when the police stopped them. A statement from the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Associations (FORDA) said he was detained and later released.

Resident doctors across the country are protesting against the multiple postponement of NEET PG counseling 2021 exam from November 27 and subsequent admission of new batch of resident doctors in medical colleges.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the Modi government for police action against resident doctors in the national capital who took to the streets to protest the delay in NEET-PG counselling.

FORDA also showed police personnel and protesters scuffles with each other in its Twitter handle, with a police bus visible in the background.

However, the police denied any allegation of lathi-charge or hate speech on their part and said that 12 protesters were detained and later released.

He said the protesters blocked the ITO road for six to eight hours. He was repeatedly requested to leave the spot, but he continued to block the road. Later, the protesters also blocked both the routes of ITO road, according to the police.

“We spoke to the members of the association and tried to resolve the matter, but they continued to block the roads,” said a police officer.

News agency PTI quoted the police as saying that when the protesters were being removed from the streets, they tried to tear the uniforms of the policemen. They also broke the windows of the police vehicle and misbehaved with the security forces.

On 6 December, the RDA had boycotted emergency and routine services in hospitals. However, on 9 December, after a positive assurance from the health ministry, the federation suspended its agitation for a week.

‘Lack of manpower even in times of need’

“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, admission to various courses in NEET PG 2021 has been indefinitely delayed. Residents have been taking up both Covid and non-Covid services tirelessly over the last one and a half years and both physical mentally exhausted and mentally exhausted,” the doctors’ body said in a release earlier.

“They are already waiting patiently for some positive outcome of the Supreme Court proceedings in the matter of delayed NEET PG 2021 counseling. However, there has been no relief from their physical and mental distress, the next court hearing on January 6 is scheduled, 2022.”

RML RDA in a letter to the hospital said, “To mark our protest against these repeated delays and postponement in counselling, we residents of ABVIMS and Dr RML Hospital visited the OPD on Saturday, November 27, 2021. It has been decided to withdraw services, including Sunday OPD.” Administration.

The doctors’ associations demanded the government and the apex court to expedite the NEET PG counseling and admission process and take necessary measures to expedite the court proceedings.

A large number of students pursuing their post-graduation at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) gathered in front of the office of the Medical Superintendent at the Delhi government-run LNJP Hospital, its attached facility, to express their concern over the issue, a senior The doctor said in the hospital.

“They were around 70-80 in number, and gathered outside the MD office in the portico area, and expressed their concern,” he said, adding that OPD services at LNJP Hospital were not affected.
