Doctor Performs Rare Surgery On Mason With Fatal Illness, Pays Part Of Hosp Bill | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Md. Azima 45-year-old resident of Hazaribag, got a new lease of life after a urologist from a city-based hospital came forward and ensured that the poor mason was provided a complicated and rare surgery at one fifth of the total cost.
Azim had developed BL pyonephrosis with bladder rupture — a critical life threatening condition which damages the kidney and results in sepsis.
The patient had got his treatment from eight different doctors in Hazaribag, including one in Ranchi. The patient had reached Rims early January this year after losing all hope. But due to lack of medical care, he then approached Bhagwan Mahaveer Medica superspeciality hospital in Ranchi where Azim met Dr. Kumar Mrigank Singh.
Dr Singh examined the patient on January 9 as he had arrived with severe shock and sepsis. “After preliminary examination, we found that Azim’s urinary bladder had developed clots. Apart from that, thickness of urinary bladder wall had inflated to 13mm which should be 1mm for a normal person and immediately suggested him Percutaneous Nephrostomy ,PCN) and bladder repair surgery — Vesicoraphy. Not only this but the urinary bladder also had pus filled in multiple pockets with leucocytes levels upto 53,000,” said Dr Singh.
The doctors at Medica immediately planned PCN and vesicography but as the patient was unable to afford medical bills, Dr Singh made an alternative arrangement in which the patient had to just spend only four days at the hospital.
“Initially I performed PCN and discharged him for 14 days so that the pus filled in his bladder could be drained out while he was allowed to stay at home. After 14 days, when he visited us he had shown improvement. However, I kept following it up with the patient and his son on precautions. When the patient arrived after 14 days, we performed vesicography so that his infection in bladder and inflammation subsides,” added Dr Singh.
Meanwhile, when TOI contacted the patient and asked about his treatment, Azim said: “I am indebted to Dr Singh and his team.”
