DNA Exclusive: Analysis of Amit Shah’s Uniform Civil Code Remark Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Uniform Civil Code has been a major election plank of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The UCC has been a part of the BJP’s election plan apart from the removal of Ram Mandir and Article 370. Since the BJP government has already completed the work of abrogation of Article 370 and the construction of the Ram temple is also underway, the focus is now shifting towards the UCC. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set the biggest agenda for the 2024 general elections.

In today’s DNA, Rohit Ranjan of Zee News analyzes Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comment about Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Now the biggest issue for BJP is to implement Uniform Civil Code in the country. UCC is a set of rules that apply equally to every religion, class and caste. BJP is working in this direction and now the party can raise this issue in next year’s general elections as well.

Home Minister Amit Shah has indirectly spoken about UCC on many occasions but for the first time Shah told a forum in Kolhapur that BJP ruled states in the country are moving towards UCC. He said that the opponents of BJP are deeply hurt by this announcement.

States like Gujarat and Uttarakhand are already working towards a Uniform Civil Code and more BJP states are likely to adopt it in the coming years. The government has been referring to the law ministry every time a court has asked about the possibility of a UCC, an issue that has been central to the BJP’s ideological development.

The BJP has managed to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir despite opposition from rival parties. It has also brought in a law against triple talaq despite protests from the opposition. Hence, Amit Shah’s statement about UCC indicates that this issue could be one of the major election issues of BJP.
