Mangaluru: To make the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign successful, the Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat has directed 223 gram panchayats in the district to distribute tricolours free of cost.
While the district requires more than 3.3 lakh tricolours for the campaign, the central government has already sent 1.3 lakh flags. Gram panchayats will procure 1.5 lakh tricolours through the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
ZP CEO Kumar said that he has given directions to gram panchayats to purchase national flags, and to distribute them for free in villages.
All government offices have been directed to hoist the tricolour on top of their buildings from August 13 to 15, for the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. At a meeting of officials held to discuss about the campaign, here on Monday, Kumar said that people may hoist the flag at night too, as per the 2021 amendment to The Flag Code of India.
“Schools, colleges, gram panchayat offices, primary health centres, sub-centres, krishi kendras, veterinary centres and all government offices should participate in the campaign, by hoisting the flag. The department of public instruction has been directed to hold jathas and various competitions, to create awareness on national integrity among students in the district,” he said.
He insisted that people should hoist the tricolour on top of their homes, and it should be kept safely after Independence Day. Those who distribute the national flag should provide information on this, he said.
DK to celebrate I-Day
with pomp
After living for two years under restrictions, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the district is all set to celebrate Independence Day in a splendid way.
The district had celebrated Independence Day without much gaiety, due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in 2021.
Additional deputy commissioner Krishnamurthy H K said that district minister V Sunil Kumar will hoist the tricolour at Nehru Maidan in the city at 9am on August 15, and later deliver his Independence Day speech.
Children from schools will present cultural programmes at 11 am, he said, and added that government offices, major roads and circles will be decorated.
